Beautiful, handmade reticulated sterling silver bands with precious gemstones. Can be worn as a stacking set, or divided between three people to serve as a reminder of their relationship. Perfect for families or friends. These rings will be made to order, with a wide variety of gorgeous 3mm gemstones to choose from. Each piece can be worn separately and is one of a kind with its own unique character and texture; they can also be worn together as a stunning statement, each one a third of a whole.  Prices vary with gemstones chosen; see variations below.  Orders take 3-4 weeks to finish and ship.  Delivery is free within Canada, or if you’re going to be in the Nanaimo, BC area you can arrange for pick up during the checking out process.
Please contact me if you are interested in any variation on this design, would like to mix and match gemstones or if you’d like a matching bracelet and/or earrings designed for a one of a kind set. (Note: ring size 10.5 with blue topaz, red garnet and green peridot gemstones shown).
Measurements: The measurements of each ring fluctuate with the raw edge, however, the 3 rings together will be 18-21 mm wide. Request a quote if you’d like a thinner or wider band.  You can indicate what size you’d like during the checking out process.
The process: In metalwork, reticulation refers to a decorative surface finishing technique involving the application of localised heat to the surface of a metal object. My reticulation silver starts with a mix of 80% pure silver and 20% copper. The piece of silver is heated numerous times to just above the annealing temperature to oxidise the copper to the surface.
The silver that is left behind fills in the gaps created by the oxidising copper creating peaks and valleys in the metal. The more the process is repeated, the more pronounced the textures become. Each time the piece is heated, it is then quenched and pickled to remove the copper and cleaned with a brass brush to remove any remaining residue.
This process is repeated to 12-25+ times, depending on the gauge of the metal (I use 20 gauge and it usually takes 18-20 times) and the final desired outcome. As copper is continually pulled out of the silver during the process, the final product is at least .925 sterling silver, if not higher.

Once the piece of silver has been reticulated, the edges are sanded smooth and finished off with sterling silver wire, then once again quenched, pickled and cleaned with a brass brush. The design that will divide the three parts is drawn on the metal and cut with a fine jeweler’s saw. The ends are sanded smooth and all three pieces are formed into rings, the bezels soldered into place and the gemstones set. The final step in the process is placing it in a tumbler with steel shot for 1 to 2 hours for a final hardening and polishing.
